Thinking about throwing a “kids only” Halloween bash this year for your little ones? Well, nothing could be more fun then planning one for your kids. Whether you’re doing it for your own children or maybe you’re a teacher looking for ideas for a spooky classroom Halloween party, I’ve got some suggestions to make this haunted Halloween party one your children will remember!
First of all, make sure the invitations request that the children wear costumes. That’s the whole idea of a Halloween costume party, right? Give out prizes for different categories such as; scariest costume, funniest costume, best home-made costume and best overall costume.
Decorations – spooky, spooky and seriously spooky! However, keep in mind the ages of the kids that will be there when decorating . Turn your front yard into a Yard Haunt and turn the inside of your house into a fun haunted house that the kids will enjoy.
Food/appetizers - the simpler the better. Finger foods are always your best bet with children. Don’t make it a big sit down affair, you’ll lose your guests attention quickly that way. Kids are always on the go; if they can grab a bite on the run so they don’t feel they’re going to miss anything all the better. Chicken tenders, pizza roll ups, bagel bites, chips and dip are all great ideas for finger foods that kids love. Designate an area (carpet-free) where you can put out tables of food and the kids can eat right where they stand. Have small tables/chairs available in case they want to sit down and eat.
Games/Activities - set up a pumpkin carving station for the kids to make jack-o-lanterns that they can take home with them. You can’t forget “bobbing for apples” at a Halloween party.
Here are some other ghostly game ideas for your young partygoers.
Eyeball Relay
You’ll need:
1 Ping pong ball for each team (painted like an eyeball)
1 spoon for each team
Divide children into teams. Give the first child on each team a spoon and a ping pong ball.
Set up the course to where they have to carry the “EYE” on the spoon to the end of the course and come back. Hand off to the next child and continue until all children have played on the team. First team done wins!
Trick or Treat Game
You’ll need:
Paper
Pencil
Have the children write the words “Trick or Treat” on a piece of paper. Set a timer. See how many words they can make out of “Trick or Treat”. Let children eat treats while they create the words.
Spider Web
You’ll need:
Ball of black yarn
Children stand in a circle. A ball of yarn is thrown across to another child. The child holds on to a piece of the yarn and then throws the ball across to another child. Continue until a spider web is created.
Make this Halloween costume party for your children one that all the kids will be talking about Monday at school. Happy Haunting!
